With my finished slide show I followed Owens tutorial on how to do a simple fade in fade out slide show.
I really liked this idea of slide show as it is simple and not fussy. Its clear and very easy to use.
I found using flash very challenging and I would like to learn more of the program before I try a new project as I found this fairly difficult!
This image had me thinking of different transitions i could be using between my slides... here are some more transitions that one could use within a slide show;
fade in, fade out, swirl, blur, slide, slide from corner, rotate, roll out, distort, checkerboard, and there is many many more different tequnices one coud achieve with different programs

different slideshow layouts
I like this layout how that the pictures look like they are polaroids layered on top of each other " :)
slideshow research
I really enjoyed this project and i cant wait to get a start on the new 1

BRIEF / TASK
Dust
Jacket Designs
CONTEXTUALISED
GRADES AVAILABLE:
- Identify and apply strategies to find appropriate solutions (M1)
- select/design and apply appropriate methods/techniques (M2)
- The appropriate structure and approach has been used (M3)
- Use critical reflection to evaluate own work and justify valid conclusions (D1)
- Take responsibility for managing and organising activities (D2)
- Demonstrate convergent/lateral/creative thinking (D3)
GUIDANCE TO PASS THE ASSIGNMENT:
No
pre-existing artwork can contribute to the finished dust jacket
designs – each must contain all of the listed constituent elements
-
- Print and wrap the dust jackets you have designed – research how best to photograph the work for inclusion in your portfolio – post the research and resultant images to your blog (presenting tactile objects)
- Place the dust jacket designs in a digital context – iphone and android – ipad2 and kindle - post the resultant images to your blog (presenting digital work)
- Create a Flash slideshow with the images from the preceding tasks to showcase your designs online, or as a standalone digital file
GUIDANCE
FOR ACHIEVEMENT OF CONTEXTUALISED GRADES:
In
order to achieve ‘Identify
and apply strategies to find appropriate solutions’
(M1)
The accompanying roughs/idea generation work must demonstrate that
multiple
solutions
were investigated.
In
order to achieve ‘select/design
and apply appropriate methods/techniques’
(M2)
The portfolio images must be competently
constructed
and attest to a sound understanding of the principles
of design.
In
order to achieve ‘the
appropriate structure and approach has been used’
(M3)
Collect relevant examples from a wide
range of sources
over an extended
period of time
– evidence of research to be posted to accompanying blog.
In
order to achieve ‘Use
critical reflection to evaluate own work and justify valid
conclusions’
(D1)
Demonstrate that a self-criticism
of approach
has taken place via posts on the accompanying blog. This should
include a
critical evaluation
of the finished series.
In
order to achieve ‘Take
responsibility for managing and organising activities’
(D2)
A clear progression
from concept to finished artwork
must be observable on the accompanying blog – establishing that the
assignment has been well
planned and managed.
In
order to achieve ‘Demonstrate
convergent/lateral/creative thinking’
(D3)
The designs and accompanying roughs/idea generation work must
demonstrate a highly
artistic and innovative approach
to image making, and an advanced
understanding of the techniques required.
My final Covers
This is how my book covers should all look as a serious when stacked together. i think they work well together. I chose the colours for the blocks based on the colours in each image.
These are the front and spines of my books just to give the idea of what they should look like.
Editing some of my imagery
These are just some examples of me playing around with my images in Photoshop and Illustrator. In my image of the cat and goat man, i used a 16 colour live trace on them. my image of the well is simply turned to grey scale and my pictures of the trees for Norwegian is a 3 grey-scale colour live trace using Illustrator..
Dance Dance Dance
I thought that these images were relevant as there is a strange goat man that visits the narrator in the book so that's why i think that my 1st image is very appropriate.
I wasn't so sure of my second image, I was kind of second guessing myself. i thought that she could symbolize the prostitute in the novel.
Kafka On the Shore
I was very proud finding that cat in the botanic gardens so I was very quick to take a picture of it. I think it would be very suitable for the cover as half the novel is about an old man who can talk to cats
The Elephant Vanishes Images
The last thing I wanted on the cover of this book was an Elephant because I thought that it may be to obvious. So instead I decided to use an image where there is clearly no elephant! haha. I took the 1st image in black and white on my camera and couldn't find a version of the photo in colour but i think that it would work as the it is the colours of an elephant and it looks like someone looking for something? :)
My second images is just a picture of vast open space where the "elephant dissapeared?"

Wind up bird Chronical
I thought that this images of a well was my best picture to represent this cover. The images of a well is repeated throughout the book and it is the path to Tokyo's underworld
INorwegian Wood Ideas
I really liked theses two images and thought they would work well on a book cover. They kinda gave me the idea to use my botanic garden photographs.

revise design...?
After printing out my first drafts i've decided I like my ideas but I know I need to change some things. I need the name of the book to appear on spine and the authors name on the front.
I think I will also maybe play around with some more imagery before I choose a final design...

Themes?
So I have to come up with some sort of template that will make my books all look like a series? I'm not quiet sure how i'm going to do that yet. i think i'm just going to have to play around with photoshop and see what i can come up with :)
On the other hand...... I have been thinking of ideas of what i'm going to use as covers (image wise) and I think I have come up with a good idea;
I recently visited the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevan, Dublin and took a lot of pictures while there and I just have them sitting there as we aren't using them for any other projects. So i've decided to use these images to make up my series.
- So my theme is going to be images from the Botanic Gardens
