BRIEF / TASK
Dust Jacket Designs

CONTEXTUALISED GRADES AVAILABLE:
  1. Identify and apply strategies to find appropriate solutions (M1)
  2. select/design and apply appropriate methods/techniques (M2)
  3. The appropriate structure and approach has been used (M3)
  4. Use critical reflection to evaluate own work and justify valid conclusions (D1)
  5. Take responsibility for managing and organising activities (D2)
  6. Demonstrate convergent/lateral/creative thinking (D3)

GUIDANCE TO PASS THE ASSIGNMENT:
No pre-existing artwork can contribute to the finished dust jacket designs – each must contain all of the listed constituent elements -
  • Print and wrap the dust jackets you have designed – research how best to photograph the work for inclusion in your portfolio – post the research and resultant images to your blog (presenting tactile objects)
  • Place the dust jacket designs in a digital context – iphone and android – ipad2 and kindle - post the resultant images to your blog (presenting digital work)
  • Create a Flash slideshow with the images from the preceding tasks to showcase your designs online, or as a standalone digital file

GUIDANCE FOR ACHIEVEMENT OF CONTEXTUALISED GRADES:
In order to achieve ‘Identify and apply strategies to find appropriate solutions’ (M1) The accompanying roughs/idea generation work must demonstrate that multiple solutions were investigated.

In order to achieve ‘select/design and apply appropriate methods/techniques’ (M2) The portfolio images must be competently constructed and attest to a sound understanding of the principles of design.

In order to achieve ‘the appropriate structure and approach has been used’ (M3) Collect relevant examples from a wide range of sources over an extended period of time – evidence of research to be posted to accompanying blog.

In order to achieve ‘Use critical reflection to evaluate own work and justify valid conclusions’ (D1) Demonstrate that a self-criticism of approach has taken place via posts on the accompanying blog. This should include a critical evaluation of the finished series.
In order to achieve ‘Take responsibility for managing and organising activities’ (D2) A clear progression from concept to finished artwork must be observable on the accompanying blog – establishing that the assignment has been well planned and managed.

In order to achieve ‘Demonstrate convergent/lateral/creative thinking’ (D3) The designs and accompanying roughs/idea generation work must demonstrate a highly artistic and innovative approach to image making, and an advanced understanding of the techniques required.
